Frequently asked questions.

How do I book/attend my first 1:1 appointment?
To book your first appointment, please complete our intake form here! We will ask you a few questions to ensure one of our psychologists is a suitable fit for you and to review their availability. Once this is confirmed, we will contact you to determine your session time/date and you will be sent a link on the day of your appointment.

How do I choose my session length?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes in duration. If you feel like this is not sufficient to attend to your concerns, you are welcome to book longer appointments. You might also be someone who benefits from additional grounding time post talk-therapy, so you might select a longer appointment to allow for this practice to be integrated into your session. Session lengths can change across your course of therapy- longer sessions can be one off or more regular; this can be discussed with your psychologist.

Do I need a Mental Health Care Plan/a referral to access services?
You do not need a referral or Mental Health Care Plan to access Yin Psychology services, however we encourage you to consider this due to the prospect of reducing your out-of-pocket costs.

How do I obtain a Mental Health Care Plan?
Please go here to learn more about this process.

Can I claim under my private health cover and a Mental Health Care Plan?
No. You can only claim a private health rebate or a Medicare rebate for psychology sessions, you cannot claim both.

What do I need to prepare for my first session?
Before your first session, you will receive an email with instructions on what needs to be provided to us. This will include providing any relevant documentation (i.e., a referral and Mental Health Care Plan if you intend to claim Medicare rebates) and completing some documents (i.e., Terms of Conditions) and questionnaires. You are also welcome to email us any letters, reports, or information you think might be relevant to your treatment.

To prepare for a Telehealth session, we suggest finding somewhere private, comfortable, and free from interruptions. It is important that you are able to speak freely during the session. Pets, foods, drinks, and personal comforts are welcome (and encouraged!). You will also need access to a reliable internet connection and a computer/tablet/smartphone that has a microphone, speaker, and camera. In the instance that video call capability is not supported, your psychologist will offer you a phone call.

What is your cancellation policy and when are payments due?
We require session fees to be paid in full at the time of your appointment. If you need to cancel, we require two full business days’ notice prior to the day of your appointment (i.e., to cancel a Monday appointment, notice must be given by Thursday, to cancel a Tuesday appointment, notice must be given by the Friday before). This cancellation policy is in place so we have adequate time to allow another client to take the appointment allocation. If an appointment is cancelled within 2 days prior to the day of the appointment, 50% of the session fee will apply. If an appointment is cancelled within 1 business day prior to the day of the appointment, or you do not provide notice of cancellation, the full session fee will apply.

What happens if I’m late?
If you are late to your appointment, we ask that you let your psychologist know as soon as possible. Your psychologist will likely not be able to make up the time with you as they will have another booking adjacent to yours. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your session, your psychologist will consider this a late cancellation and you will be charged accordingly. These measures are in place to respect each client’s time fairly and to maintain the wellbeing of our psychologists.
